James Roy Welch Of Man, WV James Roy Welch, 92, of Man, departed this life Tuesday, April 16, 2013. He was born March 4, 1921, at Frenchburg, KY, a son of the late Walter Everette and Kizzie Wheeler Smith Welch, Sr. He lived most of his life in Logan County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Anna Louise Cook Welch; and two sisters Juanita Welch Cook and Helen Welch Norris. "Daddy Jim", as he was known to his grandchildren, was genuinely loved by everyone who knew him. His family and his community were very important to him. Jim was an honorably discharged World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army's 80th division. He received a Purple Heart for wounds suffered in combat while in France. He was a mine electrician who began his career at Guyan Eagle Coal, continued working the majority of his 45-year career for Island Creek Coal and retired from Consol Mines. Jim was a Deacon for the First Baptist Church of Man, two-term city councilman, and Buffalo Creek Memorial Library Board of Directors member. He was a member of Man Rotary Club, serving as treasurer, and was a member of the Man Appalachian Hospital Board of Directors. Surviving are his daughter, Glenyce Welch Browning and her husband Ronald of Spencer, WV; son, Daniel Welch and his wife, Sara, of Nitro, WV; two sisters, Kathryn Welch and Ruby Welch Coots, both of Beckley, WV; three brothers, Sam Welch of Chapmanville, WV; Don Welch and his wife, Irene, of Monroe, NC and Walter Welch, Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Shady Spring, WV; two grandsons, Jeff Browning and his wife, Charlene, of Middlesex, NC and Jon Browning and his wife, Donna, of Cary, NC; two great-granddaughters, Katherine and Anna Browning both of Cary, NC; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Zane Gray officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Pall bearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider contributions to the Buffalo Creek Memorial Library, Man, WV. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
