Carmel Perdue
Of Man, WV
Carmel Perdue, 85, of Man, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 21, 2014, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, after a long illness.
He was born on February 25, 1929, at Blair, the son of the late Earl Perdue and Ethel Mullins Perdue Fulks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Normal (Ann) Perdew, Bill Perdue, Norman Perdue, Gene Mullins, and Bethel (Lill) Belcher.
A 1948 graduate of Man High School, Carmel played football, basketball and baseball and was later inducted into the Man High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Myers, VA where he was a member of the Honor Guard. Beginning his career as a coal miner, Carmel retired as a superintendent of Island Creek Coal Company in 1985. He was a longtime member of the Quarterback Club at Man High School and was a member of Bruce McDonald Memorial United Methodist Church. Carmel enjoyed all sports but was particularly fond of Man High School and WVU football. He was deeply loved by his family and will be dearly missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Toni Perdue; three daughters, Linda (Dale) Melton-McClung of Milton, Trisha (Rev. Marvin) Cresong of Conover, NC, and Susan (Lee) Hammock of Mechanicsville, VA; five grandchildren, Billy (Missy) Melton of Scott Depot, Shanna (Craig) Bryant of Claremont, NC, Jodi (Travis) Elkins of Ashford, and Kara and Connor Hammock of Mechanicsville, VA; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Melton, Payton and Camryn Bryant, and Grace Elkins; siblings, Floyd (Mildred) Perdue of Sterling, VA and Geraldine (Willis) Norton of Radcliffe, OH; three sisters-in-law, Sharon Perdue of Levergne, TN, Rebecca Mullins of Freemont, OH, and Helen Perdue of Proctorville, OH; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, September 26, 2014, at the Bruce McDonald Memorial United Methodist Church at Man with Rev. Randy Sites officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Park at Danville.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church.
Pall bearers will be Craig Bryant, Rev. Marvin Cresong, Travis Elkins, Lee Hammock, Dale McClung, and Billy Melton.
Honorary pall bearers will be Harvey Arms, Gretchen Donahue, Ronnie Gibson, Jack McDaniels, Scott Mills, Eddie Tackett, Bunk Thompson, and Paul Tomblin.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Bruce McDonald Memorial United Methodist Church, 102 E. McDonald Ave., Man, WV 25635.
