Opal Triplett Burns
Of Gilman Bottom, WV
After a long and happy life, Opal Triplett Burns, age 95, departed this life, Feb. 3, 2012, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
She was born June 26, 1916 in Lincoln County to Keenan and Martha Queen Triplett, and, with her husband and growing family, became one of the first residents of Gilman Bottom in 1945.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Burns; one daughter, Irene Fisher and her husband Ernest; one son, Thomas H. Burns; two sisters, Nora Porter and Dorothy Dixon; and three brothers, Roy Triplett, Harold Triplett and Raymond Adkins.
A devoted Christian mother, grandmother and friend, Opal was the oldest living member of Claypool United Methodist Church. She enjoyed creating beautiful quilts for her family, growing flowers, writing poems and singing Gospel songs. For many years, she hosted Sunday dinner for her family, who greatly enjoyed her chicken and dumplings and fried pies made from June apples grown in her back yard.
Her memory will be cherished by her three daughters, Barbara Brown and her husband Earthel, with whom she lived, Suzi Caldwell and her husband Jerry, Sharron Jewell and her husband James; her son, John Burns; one sister, Glenna Wiley; two sisters-in-law, Garnet Triplett and Margaret Adkins; one daughter-in-law, Sammie Burns; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Family members wish to extend their sincere gratitude to her caregivers, Bobbi Hoosier, Lisa Curry, and to her pastor, Rev. Bryan C. Baker. The care given by her physicians, Dr. Sathish, Dr. Radha, Dr. Marzouk and Dr. Padman, as well as the ICCU nursing and therapy staff of Logan Regional Medical Center, is also greatly appreciated.
Services will be held at 12 Noon Monday, February 6, 2012, at Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin with Rev. Bryan C. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
