Maxine Brown McCane
of Davin, WV
Maxine Brown McCane, 86, of Davin, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, following complications with pneumonia.
She was born on March 26, 1929, at Braeholm, the daughter of the late Charlie and Nora Crockett Frye.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Oscar Frank Brown; her second husband, Wetzel "Buddy" McCane; sister, Mable Frye; brothers, Bill, Stuart, and Howard Frye; a nephew, Charles Edward Frye; son-in-law, Steve Douglas Davis; granddaughter, Nora Dawn Blankenship Greene; and two great-great-grandchildren, Bayleigh Ann Greene and Davin Ray Ramsey.
Maxine married Oscar Frank Brown in 1948 and settled in Davin. While Frank worked as a carpenter on the tipple, construction worker, and at the preperation plants, Maxine raised their five children as well as worked as a business owner and entrepreneur. After Frank's death, she retired in 1982 and enjoyed her retirement years in Virginia Beach, VA with her second husband, Wetzel "Buddy" McCane. Following Wetzel's death, Maxine moved back to Huff Creek in 1995. She dedicated her remaining time to educating and caring for her children and grandchildren.
Maxine will be remembered as an intelligent and supportive woman with a passion for aiding those in the community. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and reading. Inspiring creativity and dedication to others was her life long goal.
Those left to cherish her memory are her five children, four daughters, Nora Yvonne (James) Blankenship of Man, Donna Francis "Hickey" Murphy of Davin, Deborah Carol Davis of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, Paula Denise (Larry) Griffin of Bruno; one son, Frank Douglas Brown of Davin; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2015, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery at Branchland.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
