Sandy was an extremely nice woman and very open and friendly and encouraging to people in small business. I met her through her position in the Commerce Department. I am very saddened and shocked to know she has passed on. Sandy is truly missed by so many, I am sure. I am very saddened to know I cannot call her on the phone and discuss work, bicycles, and life.

I just received the obituary from another Commerce Director. I am shocked and saddened. I met Sandy in about 1993 when I joined Commerce at the Dallas Texas office. I knew her and worked with her for just under 20 years as I moved on from Dallas and eventually ended up in Des Moines. She was a positive person and a joy to work with. I remember talking with her and joking with her at many Commerce conferences and meetings over the years. She will be truly missed by her USDOC friends and co-workers. I am saddened to hear this news, but I would like her family and friends to know that we all appreciated Sandra and her great leadership at the USDOC.

I was certainly shocked and heartbroken when Tommy called me with new of Sandy's passing. Gosh! What great memories we shared at Lorado growing up, shouting to each other across the train tracks, porch to porch, school memories, church memories, hikes with Mona many years ago, Aunt Emmie's cooking, laughter in my living room and yours..so many cherished memories. My heart and my prayers are with you all...and especially you Shirley Rae

To the family of Sandra --
I was so saddened to learn of Sandra's sudden passing.
She was a tremendous colleague for many years, always passionate about the work she was doing to encourage international travel to the United States, and particularly passionate about her work with the Native American tribes to assist and support their efforts to market themselves internationally.
She will be missed by many, and remembered with great fondness by all who knew her.
May your own family memories sustain you through the difficult hours and days ahead.
Best regards,
julie heizer

My warmest condolences to Sandy's sister, brothers, relatives and friends.
I had the pleasure to meet her in Milan, Italy during her temporary stay as Acting Principal Commercial Officer. Even after she left Milan, we continue to stay in touch as friends and recently again as colleagues in promoting the Native American Tribes. A project she was very care about.
Sandra was one of the most beautiful person I ever met and a wonderful person to work with. Always positive and full of life!
I will miss her a lot but I will never miss her in my memories.
My very best regards,
Luisa.

Sandra was such a great joy to be around, a great light and blessed spirit in the world who made me smile and laugh. My last memory of her was dancing in Louisiana. Her joy enthusiasm was contagious. She really lived. We promised to bike together this year and I am so sorry it can't happen. She was a tremendous friend to Indian Country, her work advanced tourism there and she will be sorely missed.

Sandy came into my life in 1987 in Washington DC. Having spent time in NM since I was young, I encouraged her to take the job and move out, and we were able to visit her several times over the years. Just 10 days before she passed we had Easter lunch together and were easily able to reconnect, as tho no time had passed. She said "it was the sign of true friendship." We will miss her, and we send our prayers and heartfelt condolences.

My deepest sympathy to Sandy's family. While this is a time for sorrow, you need to know that Sandy provided a great deal of happiness to those who knew her. I met Sandra through her work as a trade specialist in New Mexico and we were currently working to continue her support of Native American tourism. For year's we traded emails and calls as I tried to support her tireless efforts in this area. We would meet at least once a year at trade conferences and she would tell me of her latest bike trip, or talk about the photo's she loved to take. She will be missed.

Sandy was a valued friend for many years -- the kind who, after not having spoken for many months, one of us could call and pick up where we left off, as if no time had passed at all. This woman accomplished a great deal in her life. Her presence helped make us better people; she will be greatly missed.

I met Sandy and her sister, Shirley, back in the 70's. We were young and employed by the federal government. Sandy was the character in our circle of friends. I remember she loved to dance and was always ready for any spur-of-the moment travel in her car...a VW Beetle that could hold 7 of us. I will always remember Sandy as an intelligent girl, outgoing, athletic, joyful and hysterically funny. Sandy obviously lived her life to the fullest. She accomplished so much and enriched many lives. I send my sincere condolences to Shirley and the entire family.

Sandy and I knew other when we were both in Washington, but we worked closely together for several years in the West. I delighted in finding excuses to make the drive from Denver to Santa Fe to work with Sandy helping New Mexico firms. I well remember one trip we made together out to Gallup to work with Native American entrepreneurs and tribal officials. Her enthusiasm caught up everybody.

Many of Sandy's colleagues lived vicariously through Sandy - whether it be mountain biking in Vietnam or telemark skiing in her beloved mountains. I know that the right words are Rest in Peace, but it's much easier to picture Sandy spending her eternity blazing down a steep, mountain trail, so Ride in Peace, Sandy!

My condolences to the legion of family and friends that loved Sandy. There was never a better friend than her - kind, generous, thoughtful, funny - always there with love, support, good sense, excellent advice (the kind you might actually follow).
We enjoyed so many laughs and good times together in the 25 years that we've been friends - working, walking, shopping, travelling, eating, watching movies and youtube videos. I won't be able to watch Uptown Funk again without laughing and crying - we watched it many times over the last few weeks, grooving as we sat on her couch (she was recuperating with a broken ankle) and gushing over the cuteness and talent of Bruno Mars.
You'll be in my heart forever Sandy.
