Edward Bryson Paynter

of Davin, WV

Edward Bryson “Eddie” Paynter, 71, of Davin, passed away peacefully at the Dignity Hospice House at Chapmanville, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, March 28, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Olive Hill, KY on November 30, 1947, the son of the late Nelson Paynter Jr. and Cathleen Manning Paynter.

Those waiting in Heaven to welcome him home, in addition to his parents, are his devoted wife of 38 years, Joyce Miller Paynter; his daughter, Andrea Michelle Paynter; and his parents-in-law, Harrison and Delphia Jude Miller.

Eddie served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and then returned to Davin where he worked as a coal miner for 20 years.  He then became a Federal Mine Inspector with MSHA where he retired after 22 years.  Eddie enjoyed his retirement as a race car owner.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and race crew on dirt tracks at Lizard Creek and Princeton.  However, he was most proud of winning 7th place at Bristol Motor Speedway in his team’s first and only hardtop race.

Those left to honor his memory are his son, Edward H. Paynter and his wife, Natalie Gina Fleming Paynter; one granddaughter, Lauren Leboeuf; two grandsons, Edward H. Paynter II and Ashton C. Paynter, all of Chardon, OH; two sisters, Brenda Burnette of Davin and Mary-K (Kathy) Balzell and her husband, Jerry; one nephew, Deric C. (Kasey) Paynter; one niece, Jacqueline Balzell and one great-niece, Kinzley, all of Lake City, FL; and his loving companion of 14 years, Bernice Sims of Davin; along with a host of family, friends, and his Race Crew at Paynter-Sims Racing.

The family would like to thank Stephanie Donahue and the team of health professionals at Dignity Hospice for all of their care, love, and support through out the past few weeks.  Jenny Ramey for the kindness and care she has provided at the Paynter home, Jessica Hughes for all of her time and assistance, and the South Charleston and Huntington VA Staff for their care during Eddie’s illness.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man where a funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. William F. Flannery III officiating.  Military honors will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Dignity Hospice, P.O. Box 4304, Chapmanville, WV  25508.

To honor Eddie’s wishes, his remains will be cremated and entombed with his wife and daughter at a later date.
