Ada Wendell

of Nitro, WV

   Ada Wendell, 87, of Nitro, formerly of Accoville, joined her husband and family in their Heavenly home on Saturday, December 8, 2018, leaving from Hubbard Hospice House West at South Charleston, after a long illness.

   She was born June 8, 1931, at Pilgrim, KY, a daughter of the late Bennie and Evelyn Ward Jude.

   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arnold Paul Wendell; one son, Arnold P. “Johnny” Wendell, Jr.; one grandson, William Matthew Wendell; her son-in-law, Larry Heatherman; four sisters, Vada Wilson, Delphia Miller, Geneva Collins, and Doris Waldron; and one brother, Junior “Floyd” Jude.

   Ada was a wonderful wife, mother, and homemaker.  She was a cook at Amherstdale Grade School for over 20 years.  A loving grandmother, Ada practically raised her grandchildren and loved every minute of it.  A Christian woman, she quietly nurtured family and friends all of her life.  Her strength of character was a constant inspiration to those around her.

   Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Linda Wendell Heatherman of Nitro with whom she made her home; one daughter-in-law, Cathy Amick Wendell of Lexington, SC; two grandchildren, Dr. Crystal and Shawn Bastin of Cross Lanes and Patrick and Whitney Heatherman of Huntington; four greatly beloved and doted upon great-grandchildren, Evelyn Kay Bastin, Ethan Cole Bastin, Patrick Arthur “Artie” Heatherman, and Macey Marie Heatherman; two sisters, Elsie Lee Ehling of CA and Mary Ann and Rev. William Flannery of Chesapeake, OH; her sister-in-law, Myrtle Wendell Daugherty of Oak Hill, OH; a special nephew, William W. “Buzzy” West of Gallipolis, OH; and a special friend who was like a daughter, Alice Faye Mitchell of Accoville; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

   A celebration of Ada’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Earl Robinson officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

   Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home also.

   Pall bearers will be Shawn Bastin, Ethan Bastin, Patrick Heatherman, Artie Heatherman, Larry Lester, William “Buzzy” West, Bobby Lee Mitchell, and Tyler Grimmett.

   In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Hubbard Hospice House, 4605 MacCorkle Ave., SW, South Charleston, WV  25309.
