Eleanor Hammonds

Of Davin, WV

Eleanor Hammonds, 83, of Davin, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 22, 2018, leaving from Logan Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family, after a long illness.

She was born on July 13, 1935, at 4 Mile in Lincoln County, a daughter of the late James Henry and Inez Nichols Davis.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Taylor Hammonds; a great-grandson, Jacob Dwayne Sims; four daughters, Mabel Hammonds, Brenda Walker, Rachel Allen, and Darlene Clay; two sons, Aubrey Hammonds and Tracy Hammonds; two sisters, Dorsie Adkins and Betty Lambert; and two brothers, James Davis, Alvis Howard Davis, and Malcolm Davis.

Eleanor was a home maker and when she was able attended Liberty Baptist Church at Amherstdale.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, and watching game shows especially The Price Is Right.  She loved gospel music and watching Hee Haw.  Eleanor had a servant’s spirit, wanting to feed and give to everyone.  She put her children’s wants and needs above her own and was known for her kindness to others.

Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Donald (Diana) Davis and Charles Hammonds, both of Davin; five daughters, Karen (Steve) Workman of Amherstdale, Charlene Hammonds of Greenville, Betty Cook of Gilman Bottom, Carol (Larry) Lawson of Lyburn, and Essie Vance Davis of Davin; six grandchildren, Priscilla (Josh) Sims, D.J. (Lana) Davis, Westin Adkins, Christy Dawn Adkins, David Burgess and Cory Clay, both of Davin; and seven great-grandchildren, Madison Sims, McKayla Sims, Hunter Sims, Nevaeh Sims, Kenna Davis, Pierson Davis, and Hayden Davis; along with a host of other relatives, neighbors, and friends.

A Celebration of Eleanor’s Life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at the Greenville Freewill Baptist Church at Greenville with Rev. Chet Clay and Rev. Baxter Toler officiating.  Burial will follow in Watson Cemetery at Branchland.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the church and one hour prior to services at the church also.

Pall bearers will be family and friends.
