Walter O. Wooten

Of Mallory, WV

   Walter O. Wooten, 72, of Mallory, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 9, 2018, leaving from his residence, after a long illness.

   He was born March 11, 1947, at Slagel, a son of the late Homer and Mae Baker Wooten.

   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers; Mick and Dick Peyton; and one sister, Shirley Mae Eldridge.

   Walter was a disabled coal miner who formerly worked for Powellton Coal Company.  He was a proud member of the UMWA District 17.  Walter was a Christian who loved the Lord and was a member of Mallory Hollow Freewill Baptist Church.  He was a member of the gospel group Forgiven where he played the guitar and sang.  When he was able, Walter enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Devoted to his family, Walter loved spending time with them especially his grandchildren.

   Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 50 years, Yvonne “Bonnie” Wooten; two daughters, Maggie (Jody) Puckett of Siloam, NC and Kellie (Daniel) Lester of Mallory; six grandchildren, Daniel Ray “Brusier” Lester, Brian Lester, Amber Puckett (Travis) Bringle, Sara Puckett, Christian Lester, Caleb Lester; three sisters, Ann Ransom, Betty (Glen) Gibson, and Bonnie Bartram; two brothers, Garland Wooten and Hobert Wooten; special friends and singing partners, Alice and Roger Lester and Ralph and Jeanie Christian; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.

   A Celebration of Walter's Life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Lehman Eldridge and Rev. Randy Toler officiating.  Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

   Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home and one hour prior to services.
