James Wesley Evans
Of Mallory, WV
James Wesley Evans, 92, of Mallory, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 16, 2018, leaving from his home at Mallory, after a short illness.
He was born December 16, 1925, at Kermit, a son of the late Columbus and Matilda Evans.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth McNew Evans; one son, Jerry Evans; son-in-law, David Ward; great-grandson, Keaton Shoemaker; three brothers, Harlen, Estil, and Claude; five sisters, Myrtle Gilman, Dora Evans, Lola Lusk, Easter Parsley, and Connie Hatcher; and one step-daughter, Lajeana Johnston Grimmett.
Jim was a coal miner who retired after 44 years of service. He was a Christian for 63 years and was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church at Accoville. An outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and yard work. He was a wonderful humble man who loved praising the Lord and spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 20 years, Betty L. Evans; one son, James (Marlene) Evans, Jr. of Davin; one daughter, Linda Ward of Gilbert; one daughter-in-law, Sue Evans of Lancaster, OH; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; six step-children, Phyllis "Cookie" (Johnny) Pruitt of Accoville, Nickey (Penny) Johnston of Barboursville, Sandy (Ricky) Adkins of Lorado, Pam (Randy) Hendricks of Verner, Cristy (Duane) Estep of Branchland, and Cindy (Gary) Hatfield of Harts; 15 step-grandchildren; and 22 step-great-grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man where funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Eddie Isom officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pall bearers will be Johnny Pruitt, Greg Frazier, Nicholas Ruggles, Shane Estep, Steven Adkins, Gary Hatfield and step-grandson, Blake Vance.
