Obituary of Maxine Justice

Maxine (Runyon) Justice Of Landville, WV Maxine (Runyon) Justice, age 92, went to her Heavenly home on April 4, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Charles "Charley" and Nancy "Nannie" Ellis Runyon at Gilbert WV. She was preceded in death by sisters, Bessie Workman and Ruth Justice, Matilda and Emma Runyon; brothers Bill, Charles, and James Robert Runyon. Maxine graduated from Gilbert High School in 1943 as Historian of her class. After graduation, she went to work at Man Hospital as a Candy Striper. She then worked as a Nurse's Aide at Welch Hospital before moving to Huntington to work as an aide at Guthery Hospital. In August 1946, she married Frank Justice and moved to Landville, where she lived for 71 ½ years. Over the years they had 8 children. Frank died of Black Lung in October 1963, leaving her to raise their children. She was a wonderful loving, caring mother for her children who all graduated from Man High School. When her youngest child started High School, she enrolled in an LPN training program where she graduated with honors. She worked at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital from 1978 to 1990. She was known as a loving, kind, knowledgeable LPN and had a wonderful reputation and was loved by her patients and co-workers. At the age of 21, she became a member of Landville FreeWill Baptist Church, which her parents had helped build in the mid-1940's. She was a Sunday School Teacher for the Card Class for years. She became known at the church for her beef stew and banana pudding, (which her late pastor David Campbell always requested.) She will be missed by her church family and Pastor "Butch" Cobb. She is survived by her children Nancy (Daniel) Jones of Moneta, VA; Patricia (Charles) Stowers of Accoville; Mary Kaufman of Colorado Springs, CO; Sherry (Randall) Stepp, Jeanie (Jack) McDaniels, Linda (James) Bowen all of Robinette; Rush "Buddy" (Vera) Justice of Hudson FL; and Connie (Bobby) Elliott of Accoville. She is also survived by her sister, Mamie (Frank) Sheehan of Queenstown, MD, and brothers, Tom (Irene) Runyon of Buttzville NJ and Roger (Linda) Runyon of Greer, SC. She is survived by 16 grandchildren: Danny (Tammy) and Greg (Leslie) Jones; Paul Stepp and Leslie (Steve) Boyer; John Kaufman, Melissa (Brian) Ardolf, and David (Jaime) Kaufman; Kelli (JB) McCallister and Jack (Candy) McDaniels; Amanda (Matt) Smith and Matthew (Missy) Bowen; Jill Larson and Brent (Meagan) Justice; Bobby (Sabona) Maynard, Brandy Elliott, David Maynard, and Braxton Elliott. She has 34 great-grandchildren with one more due in July. She will be missed by all of them as well as her many nieces and nephews, friends, co-workers, church family and her longtime friends Elestine McDaniels and Nancy Garrett. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Landville Freewill Baptist Church at Landville and one hour prior to services also. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Landville Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Runyon Jr. and Rev. Butch Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Grandsons will serve as pall bearers.
