Obituary of Gunnery Sergeant Raymond Lee Cook

Gunnery Sergeant Raymond Lee Cook, 79, passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Pikeville Hospital, following a long illness.
He was born on August 10, 1934, in Logan County, the son of the late Howard and Opal Cook.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Cook; and three sisters, Beulah Cook Western, Gladas Cook Saunders, and Pearl Cook Shaffer.
Mr. Cook was a 20 year Marine Corps veteran and a member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church at Man.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 28 years, Vodis Bailey Cook; three step-children, Danny (Jackie) Mangus, Ann (Larry) Cook, and Tonia Johnson; two brothers, Carl Cook and Robert Cook; one sister, Loraine Cook McComas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2014, at the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church at Man with Rev. Sherman Grimmett and Rev. Randy Toler officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Pall bearers will be family members.
