Obituary of Gerald Clarence Slone

Gerald Clarence Slone Of Ormond Beach, FL Gerald Clarence Slone, 84, of Ormond Beach, FL, formerly of Accoville, WV, departed this life Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at home surrounded by family after a long illness. He was born July 22, 1929, at West Hamlin, WV, a son of the late Greely Clarence and Violet Mae Baisden Slone. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Eugene Slone; two brothers Toey Slone and Mono "Buddy" Slone, two sisters Athalee Reed, and Felda Staats; and his treasured niece Barbara Jean Swinehart. Gerald worked at the Fanco Tipple for Amherst Coal Company for over 30 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. local 5850, for which he served as an officer. Gerald loved to garden and during the growing season could be found tending to the fruits and vegetables in his garden. He could also be seen on his daily walks in and around Accoville or during several hours of the day, chatting with friends and acquaintances at the Accoville Post Office. He is survived by his wife Lula Sponaugle Slone of Ormond Beach, FL; five children, Gerald Clarence Slone, II of Robinette, WV, Paul Douglas Slone of Ormond Beach, FL, Cherry Lee Rogers of Amherstdale, WV, Timothy Mark Slone of Augusta, GA, and Jon Sponaugle Slone of Ormond Beach, FL; four grandchildren Jill Marie Rogers of Daytona Beach, FL, Beth Ann Rogers of Chicago IL, Tiffany Michelle Slone of Davin, WV, and Brandon Gregory Slone of Davin, WV; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV with Rev. Buddy Hager officiating.
