Obituary of Lonnie Kennedy

Lonnie Kennedy Of Mallory, WV Lonnie Kennedy, 79, of Mallory, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his beloved wife of 43 years, Judy, on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, from Princeton Community Hospital at Princeton after a long illness. He was born June 30, 1934, at Elk Creek, the son of the late Amos and Betty Ann Crum Kennedy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Eva Davis Kennedy; his second wife, Judy Keck Kennedy; brother, Raymond Kennedy; sister, Lorraine Dasovich; and one nephew, Jerry Kennedy; and his step-mother, Maudie Kennedy. Lonnie was an electrician who retired from Island Creek Coal Company. A proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, Lonnie served as a Lance Corporal in the Korean War. Lonnie truly believed in the words of the Marine Corps Hymn "If the Army and Navy ever look on Heaven's scenes; they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines". As a young man, he played on the Coal Field Baseball League as a hind catcher. He was a member of the Mallory Church of God. An outdoorsman, Lonnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, and especially loved teaching his sons and grandsons how to hunt and fish. Those left to cherish his memory are four sons, Lonnie Amos "Lum" (Sandy) Kennedy and Robert Lee (Jowana) Kennedy, both of Accoville, and John Robert Kennedy and Danny Darrell (Munkin) Kennedy, both of Mallory; two daughters, Alice (Curtis) Hunter of Accoville and Shawn (Gary) Ellis of Kannapolis, NC; brother, John (Jane) Kennedy of Oceana; sister, Edith (Bobby) Earnest of Lincoln, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Mallory Church of God at Mallory with Rev. Shaun Walker and Rev. Joey Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153, Amer. Legion Post 103, and DAV Post 39. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Mallory Church of God. Pall bearers will be family.
