George W. Hatfield
Of Man, WV
George W. Hatfield, 87, of Man, formerly of Ravenswood, departed this life Thursday, November 7, 2013, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital.
He was born September 3, 1926, at Williamson, the son of the late Fred and Hazel Thompson Hatfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Lee Manko Hatfield; one son-in-law, Kim Hurley; his mother-in-law, Myrtle Combs Manko; two brothers, Herbert Hatfield and Charles "Freddy" Hatfield; and two sisters, Virginia Mounts and Fay Price.
George began working at the age of 14 on the railroad and then joined the Army where he served in the Korean War. He worked for the phone company for 35 years, retiring from Verizon as a phone manager. He was a lifetime member of the Communications Workers of America and the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Georgianna Hurley of Man; three grandchildren, Jacinda (Chris) Adkins, Joseph Hurley, and Jesalyn Hurley, all of Man; four great-grandchildren, Luke and Levi Adkins, Bristol Hurley, and Ryleigh Ross; and one brother-in-law, John Price of Williamson.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, 11-10-2013, at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill with Rev. Brian Pope officiating, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts.
