Obituary of David Michael McCoy

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Michael McCoy Of Mallory, WV David Michael McCoy, 57, of Mallory, went to his heavenly home on Friday, October 11, 2013, from CAMC-Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 6, 1956, at Williamson, he was a "real McCoy", the son of the late Robert A. and Emogene Moore McCoy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Barbara Marcum and Peggy Hammonds; and his father-in-law, Freeman Lusk. Mike was a retired coal miner formerly employed with Patriot Coal Company and a member of UMWA local 5850. He attended the Davin Baptist Church where he loved his church family. An avid sports lover, Mike enjoyed coaching his daughters and the youth in the Man area. He coached Midget League Football, Buddy League Basketball, ASA Softball, and the Man High Fall Basketball team. One thing is for sure, he loved the Lady Billies and all other Man High Hillbilly teams. His favorite quote was "Somewhere behind the athlete you've become and the hours of practice and the coaches who have pushed you is a little child who fell in love with the game and never looked back---play for that child." Mike wanted all of his players to live by this quote! Devoted to his family, he was a wonderful husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sharon Lusk McCoy of Mallory; two beautiful daughters of whom he was very proud, Kristi Michelle McCoy of Mallory and Mika Rachelle McCoy at home; his mother-in-law, Ruth Lusk of Mallory; seven sisters, Deborah Hopkins of Belfry, KY, Bonnie (Cleet) Saylers of Verdunville, Vickie Justus of McDermick, OH, Sandra (Erchil) Dockery of Continental, OH, Teresa Thrasher of DeFiance, OH, Janice Rhoden (Kenny) of Belfry, KY, and Janet (Ralph) Pack of Firebrick, KY; four brothers, Robert "Big Bob" McCoy (Patty) of Man, Gary Butch McCoy of Stone, KY, Tommy (Judy) McCoy of Grayson, KY, and Rick (Melinda) McCoy of Wheelersburg, OH; his extended family, Brenda (Rev. Valdus) Bailey, Sandy (Jeff) Laxton of Oceana, and Bill (Kim) Lusk of Cooks Addition; and several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Dr. Suzanne M. Cole, M.D., the staff of the David Lee Cancer Center, and CAMC Memorial Hospital for their loving care and compassion. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Johnny Hatfield and Rev. Valdus Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, WV. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home also. Pall bearers will be family and friends.
