Obituary of Hilda Gibson Maxwell

Hilda Gibson Maxwell Of Amherstdale, WV "Her children arise up and call her blessed…Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." Proverbs 31:28-30 Hilda Louise Gibson Maxwell went home to be with the Lord Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the age of 86. Born April 6, 1927, in Cabin Creek, she was the daughter of the late William Corbet and Ada Mitchell Gibson. She went to work at New York Central Railroad in Cleveland, OH. There she met her future husband, Robert "Bob" Maxwell. They were married April 22, 1946 and were married for almost 65 years when Bob passed away on December 24, 2010. After their marriage, they settled in West Virginia and raised their family in Logan County. They were longtime members of the Man Church of God. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lenora Sammons and Maryella "Molly" McCoy; grandson, Kenneth Bradley Toler; nephew, Jerry Arvin Sammons; and son-in-law, Tom Ellison. Those left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Patsy (Sam) Cutlip of Blair, Connie Ellison and Marcia (Jerry) Carr, both of Athens, and Cheryl (Ken) Toler of Naugatuck; one son, Rev. Robert (Shelia) Maxwell of Amherstdale; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Howard of Peterstown, Jason (Jeanna) Carr of Winston-Salem, NC, Jonathan (Melissa) Carr of Princeton, Stacey (Henry) Adkins of Athens, Sarah (Chris) Dingess and Bobbi A. Maxwell, all of Amherstdale, Rebekah (Keith) Noe of Chapmanville, and Kelsey Toler of Turkey Creek, KY; nine great-grandchildren, Taryn Howard, Hallie Carr, Waylon Carr, Brayden Carr, Gavin Noe, Peyton Noe, Aiden Adkins, Kendall Adkins, and Trevor Thacker; six nieces, Lenora (Dan) Kippeney of Melbourne, FL, Linda Gail Smith, Edna Jeffrey, Delores Spencer, Karen Simpkins, and Deborah Fleming; and her church family along with a host of other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, September 29, 2013, at the Church of God at Man with Rev. Donald Lafferty officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Friends are welcome to pay their respects from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services at the church.
