Mallory, WV
Verlin C. Brown, 90, of Mallory, departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2013, from Logan Center, after a short illness.
He was born August 20, 1922, at Cyclone, the son of the late Ashby Stephen and Lalah Ann Cook Brown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Lusk and Betty Lou Brown; and three brothers, Paris Brown, Gary Brown, and Seldon Brown.
Verlin was a coal miner for 45 years who retired from Powellton Coal Company. He was an Army veteran of WWII where he received the Bronze Star for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. A member of Mallory Missionary Baptist Church, Verlin served his church as a Deacon. He enjoyed driving his truck on his morning rounds.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Helen L. Kossos Brown of Mallory; two sisters, Garnett Brown of Pineville and Maxine Martin of Cyclone; two brothers, Donald (Nora) Brown of Logan and Andrew Chelsea (Yoko) Brown of Winston-Salem, NC; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Zane Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Friends may call one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pall bearers will be Frank Secreto, Larry Adams, Butch Ferrell, and Jackie Lusk.
