Joseph Don "Cockeye" Brown, Jr.
Of Greenville, WV
Joseph Don Brown, Jr., 87, of Greenville, went to be with the Lord Friday, April 19, 2013, from CAMC-General, after a sudden illness.
He was born August 19, 1925, at Man, the son of the late Don and Ida Perry Brown, Sr.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Vonnie E. Brown; four brothers, Ernest Brown, Dennis Brown, Grover Brown, and Herbert Brown; and two sisters, Margaret Haughton and Frances McCane.
Jr. was a decorated WW II Veteran, who served during the European Theatre at D Day and at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a disabled coal miner who previously worked for Powellton Coal Company. Cockeye was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan and coached Little League Babe Ruth Baseball and Girl's Softball. He was a member of the Accoville United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Dennis Brown of Man and Josh Brown of Greenville; one daughter, Shannon Brown of Varney; two sisters-in-law, Faye Powers of Greenville and Irene Brown of Paint Creek; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will commence at 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, 2013, at the Krantz McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Kit Meade, Rev. Richard Chambers, and Rev. Norman Harvey officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville, and the DAV Post 39 of Harts.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
