Sandra "Sonie" Faye Marcus
Of Kistler, WV
Sandra "Sonie" Faye Marcus, 59, of Kistler, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from Logan Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born February 27, 1953 at Elkhorn City, KY, a daughter of the late Lee Roy and Evelyn "Bea" Ratliff Mays.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tabetha Kay Mays; parents who helped raise her, Acy "Big Daddy" and Goldie "Mimmi" Childers; two brothers, Gary Wayne Mays and Dicky Childers; one sister, Patty Ramey; paternal grandparents, Alfred and Ada Bartley Mays; and maternal grandparents, Harvey and Cora Wallace Ratliff.
Sonie was an office manager formerly employed with Dr. Michael Romeo at Logan for 28 years; she retired on July 3, 2012. She earned an associates degree in accounting from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College in 1986. Sonie was an avid jokester who enjoyed collecting antiques and spending time with her grandchildren, other family members, and pets, Bobo and Punky. On Sunday, August 5, 2012, Sonie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior.
Those left to cherish her memory are her companion, John Eplin of Kistler; one daughter, Melissa (Lonnie) Marcus of Conway, SC; one son Christopher (Amy) Marcus of Kistler; two grandsons, Zachary Malinowski and Christopher Marcus II, both of Conway, SC; five sisters, Teresa (Joe) Belcher of Clairmont, NC, Debi (Rev. Earl) Robinson of Accoville, Cora (Herbert) Staten of Amherstdale, Ada (Robert) Lowe of Accoville, and Peggy (Tommy) Sykes of Elkhorn City, KY; three brothers, James (Cathy) Mays of Princeton, Bill (Debbie) Mays of Lundale, and Denny (Violet) Mays of Kistler; special friends, Dr. Michael (Cathy) Romeo and Paula Webb; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, August 10, 2012, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Mike Pollard and Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be nephews and Bill Eplin.
Honorary pall bearers will be Jerry Eplin, Tommy Sykes, and Dr. Michael Romeo.
