Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Peter Hurdle Gollihue Of Kistler, WV On June 16, 2012 Peter Hurdle Gollihue, 65, of Kistler, stepped into eternity and the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The youngest of ten children, Pete was born on June 23, 1946, at Accoville, the son of the late Peter Hurdle and Mable Jacobs Gollihue. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Gollihue; one sister, Margie Beidlier; his sister-in-law, Betty Gollihue; and his nieces, Chastity Hatfield and Dianna Browning. Pete was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A man of faith, Pete was more proud of his children's hope in Christ than any accolades, degrees, or promotions that man could bestow upon them. Pete was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was a coal mine superintendent for many years and devoted much of his time to keeping his miners safe and productive. Pete spent many days and nights attending softball and football games as his children's biggest fan. As time allowed and God provided, Pete became a grandpa which was his favorite title by far. The joy of his grandchildren and the time he spent playing and loving on them was a precious time for us all. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Helen Sue Gollihue and his four children, Christa Gollihue Vance and Sandy Gollihue, both of Kistler, Peter Gollihue and his wife, Shawnna, of Davin, and Mark Gollihue and his wife, Ashley, of Pineville, KY. Also his adoring grandchildren, Tiffany Vance, Emilie Vance, Michael Keck, Amy Keck, and a host of other children who affectionately referred to him as "Papaw Pete". Pete is also survived by several loving brothers and sisters, Rev. Harry Gollihue and his wife Pauline, of Marlton, NJ, William "Doty" Gollihue of Kistler, Mary Lou Wingler of Lorado, Joan Knirin and her husband, Paul, of Belfry, OH, Ernestine Browning and her husband, Larry, of Greenvalley, Gerri Smith and her husband Richard, of Cleveland, OH, and DJ Gollihue and his wife, Donna, of LaGrange, KY. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 reads; I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Kistler Free Will Baptist Church at Kistler with Rev. Roland Cook officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and the DAV Post 39 of Harts. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Kistler Free Will Baptist Church and one hour prior to services. Pall bearers will family and friends.
