Emma Kathryn Mitchell
Of Verner, WV
Emma Kathryn Mitchell, 89, of Verner, WV, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 13, 2012.
She was born May 29, 1922, at Guyan, the daughter of the late John Sherman and Edna Carrie Blankenship Browning.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and true love with whom she shared 66 years of marriage, Bill Mitchell; seven sisters, Ardena Browning, Clytia Browning, Ollie Browning, Glenna Vance, Elzora Grimmett, Zina Wiley, and Ivel Collier; and four brothers, Jimmy Browning, Clarence Browning, Homer Browning, and Rubal Browning.
Emma was a retired school teacher formerly employed with Logan County Board of Education, having taught school for 44 years. She was a member of the Man Church of the Nazarene for 63 years where she taught Sunday school for 58 years, served as the Missionary Leader, and was a member of the Ladies Aide. Recently, the new Man Church of the Nazarene Family Life Center was dedicated in honor of Emma and her husband, Bill, and Buddy and Juanita Ellis for their many years of support and commitment to the church. She was also a member of the S.T.A.R.T. Club and the Hemlock Hills Garden Club.
Emma led a very active life and enjoyed quilting and crafts. She also served her church and S.T.A.R.T Club by decorating for all special occasions. Emma loved all of the week-end cookouts with her family, her church, and studying the word of God. Above all, Emma's proudest accomplishment was that of being a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a kind, caring and virtuous woman, who had a tremendous influence on many people.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Janet) Mitchell of Verner; one daughter, Rebecca (Alan) Dantes of Charleston; two granddaughters, Amy (John) Keffer and Julie (Bobby) Morris, both of Verner; two grandsons, Ricky (Christy) Blankenship of Madison and Richie Mitchell and his fiancé, Amy Anderson, of Verner; great-grandchildren, Malorie Keffer and her fiancé, Trey Taylor, John Thomas Keffer, Mitchell, Bethanie, and Dylan Morris, Kendra and Emily Mitchell, and Conner Blankenship; and many special nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
