Of Titusville, FL
Paul James Combs, 90, of Titusville, FL departed this life on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his home in Titusville.
He was born June 12, 1921, at Kistler, WV, the son of the late Stephen and Zettie Allen Combs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edell Curtis Combs; a daughter, Patrica Louise Combs; a son, James Ronald Combs; a sister, Mary Combs; and two brothers, Johnny Combs and Dr. Luke Combs.
Mr. Combs was a Navy veteran of WWII, who served in the Atlantic Theatre as a machinist repairing battle damaged ships. Before the war he had completed a tour of service in the Army. An avid fan of Southern Gospel Music, Mr. Combs sang God's praises semi-professionally with the Crusaders and Deacons Quartets. He was a former member of the Becco United Baptist Church. A retired coal miner, Mr. Combs was previously employed with Amherst Coal Company and was a member of the UMWA. After moving to FL, he was a member of the Mims Baptist Church, where for many years, when he was able, he was very active with his church's nursing home ministries.
Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Mary Lou (Richard) Nunley of Titusville, FL with whom he made his home and Barbara Ann (Dickie) Lusk of Twin Falls, WV; seven grandchildren, Barry Nunley of Orlando, FL, JoElla (Tim) Engel, Rebecca (James) Cunningham, and Jennifer York, all of Hurricane, WV, Rhonda (Andy) Wick of Charleston, WV, and Brooke (Jeremy) Cline and Rachell (Bobby) Nester, both of South Man, WV; and eight great-grandchildren, Mallory, Jacob, and Alexa Engle, Trevor, Carly, and Joseph Paul Cunningham, Carson Cline, and Aidan Nester.
Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Rev. Denver McClellan officiating. Burial will follow.
Services in Florida were conducted by Rev. Jim Foster on Monday at Newcomers Funeral Home at Titusville, FL
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the Joseph Fund and sent to Mims Baptist Church, 2395 Kentucky Ave., Mims, FL 32754.
