Obituary of Oscar Hearl Coburn

Oscar Hearl Coburn Of Curtis, WV Oscar "Kobie" Hearl Coburn, 67 of Curtis, went to his heavenly home to join his wife Jouraine Joyce "Tedom" Coburn, Saturday, March 10, 2012. He was born on April 11, 1944, at Cyclone, a son of the late Larence Hearl Coburn and Leona Dempsey Coburn Gibson. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Gibson. Kobie was a Graduate Engineer of Western Pennsylvania Institute of Technology. He retired from Pittston Coal Company in 1998 after working over 30 years as an electrician. Kobie was passionate about teaching young children about the word of God and spent over 40 years teaching Bible study and Sunday school classes in his community. He loved gardening and the outdoors. Kobie was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Aracoma Lodge 274, where he served as Priest and Vice Grand. Those left to cherish his memory are one son, Kobie Hearl Coburn and his wife, Diana, of Chapmanville; two "adopted daughters", Becky Keathley and her husband, Joey, of Chapmanville and Trish Scites and her husband, Mark, of Crown; one granddaughter, Ashley Coburn of Chapmanville; one grandson, James Scites of Crown; four brothers, George Douglas Gibson, Leonard Ray Gibson, Dewey Lee Gibson, and Ronald Lee Gibson all of Curtis; two sisters, Gretta Ann Thomas and her husband, Danny, and Naomi Sue Lusk and her husband, Paul, both of Curtis; one step sister, Janice Darlene Osborne and her husband, Bill, of Kopperston; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at the Curtis Missionary Baptist Church at Curtis with Rodney Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniels Cemetery at Curtis where Odd Fellows Lodge 170 will be conducting graveside rites and will serve as pall bearers along with other brothers of his lodge. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man, where Lodge Memoriam will be conducted by Aracoma Lodge 274 at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
