Gerald Austin Carter
Of Kistler, WV
Gerald Austin Carter, 87, of Kistler, went to be with the Lord Thursday, January 26, 2012, from Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan, after a long illness.
He was born March 28, 1924, at Gilbert, the son of the late Leonard and Sally Sarah Hatfield Carter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Madeline L. Carter; four brothers, Elmer Carter, Arnold Carter, Walter Carter, and Moss Carter; one sister, Tilda Hatfield; four half-brothers, Virgil Hatfield, Ance Hatfield, Okey Hatfield, and Epp Hatfield; and two half-sisters, Ella Grimmett and Bertha Browning.
Gerald was a disabled coal miner and had formerly worked for Carter's Taxi Service at Man. He was a member of the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco. An outdoorsman, Gerald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. His greatest love was playing with children especially his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Sue (Dennis) Bryant of Kistler; two sons, Donald (Toni) Carter of Man and Danny (Carol) Carter of Palm Coast, FL; one sister, Eunice May of Gilbert; very special friends, Rev. Johnny and Naomi Hatfield of Davin; nine grandchildren, Dennis (Patricia) Bryant, Jr. of VA, Angela (Roger) Clark of Thomasville, NC, Kelli (Ian) Carroll of Man, Donald Carter II of Madison, Michelle "Missy" (Eric) Mullins and Jason (Jennifer) Carter, both of Man, Danny Carter, Jr. of TX, and Joy Carter and Dawn Carter, both of NJ; great-grandchildren, Emma, Matthew, and Owen, all of VA, Dylan, Jacob, and Lenzie, all of NC, Chris, Mattie, Ashton, Lexy, Nick, Neil, Erik, Erika, Josh, and Chandler, all of South Man, and Emily and Kylie, both of NJ; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. Denver McClellan and Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services at the church.
Pall bearers will be his grandsons, Nick, Neil, Dennis, Eric, Jason, and Ian.
