Obituary of Chester William Fields

Chester William Fields, Sr., 89, departed this life to join his wife in their Heavenly home on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, from his home at Amherstdale after an extended illness. He was born April 19, 1922, in Logan County, the son of the late Walker and Maggie Osborne Fields. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie Lou Williams Fields; and one brother, Billy Fields. Chester was a retired coal miner formerly employed with Island Creek Coal Company for 37 years. He was a member of the UMWA District 17 who had recently received his 70 year membership pin. An U.S. Army veteran of WWII, Chester was a recipient of the Purple Heart for injuries he received during a battle in Germany in 1945. Chester was a faithful longtime member of the Becco United Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping but most of all he loved spending time with his family especially the grandbabies and great-grandbabies. Those left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Melinda (Scott) McDonald of Amherstdale; one son, Chester William "Curley" (Kathy) Fields, Jr. of Robinette; one sister, Dovie Glicothe of Ironton, OH; six grandchildren, Christy Dawn (Matt) Angell of Battle Creek, MI, Lisa Marie Boyd of New Hampshire, VA, Derek Shane (Amy) Fields, Katrina Kay Fields, and Kevin William (Marcie) Fields, all of Youngstown, OH, and Gary Dale Boyd, Jr. of Charleston; 10 great-grandchilden, Ethan, Becky, Matt, Sadie, Katie, Amanda, Samantha, Melanie, Chloe, and Xander; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will commence at 12 Noon on Friday, November 4, 2011, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Becco United Baptist Church and one hour prior to services at the church also. Pall bearers will be family and friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
