Of Mallory, WV
Fred Edward Wingler, 84, of Mallory, left his home on earth and was reunited with his wife in their heavenly home on Monday, October 17, 2011.
He was born February 18, 1927, at Man, the son of the late Rev. Everett and Zida Bailey Wingler.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Belcher Wingler; three infant children, Eddie Ray Wingler, Tommy Lee Wingler, and Betty Jo Wingler; one sister, Ruby Morris; one son-in-law, James R. Hicks; two brothers-in-law, James Duncan and Freddy McCoy; and a very special friend, Ellis Ferrell.
He was a retired coal miner formerly employed with Amherst Coal Company for 33 years. Fred was a proud member of the UMWA district 17 and the Democratic Party. An Army veteran of World War II, Fred was a life time charter member of VFW Post 8412 and was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his family. He was a caring, loving father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are eight children, Delores Ann (Gerald II) Slone of Robinette, Freddy (Frances) Wingler of Mallory, Brenda Sue Hicks of Lorado, Gail (Frenchie) Lusk of Accoville, Carolyn Kay (Paul Jr.) Schoolcraft David L. (Georgia) Wingler, Ginger (Gary) McDaniels, and Dana Faye Wingler Nelson, all of Mallory; five sisters, Mildred Terry of Detroit, MI, Frances Duncan of Accoville, Madeline McCoy of Huntington, Lorraine (Cecil "Red") Elkins of Riley, and Louanna (Allen) Workman of Charleston; three brothers, Ralph (Mavis) Wingler of Crawley Creek, Billy (Beatrice) Wingler of Kistler, and Bobby Wingler of Mansfield, OH; a very special granddaughter who resided with him, Kristina Nelson of Mallory, 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; three close friends, Clarence Gibbons of South Man, and Ricky Roberts and Marvin Roberts, both of Mallory, his devoted caretakers, Sherry Lynn Workman of Greenville, Geraldine Ferrell of Cranco, Gerald Slone II of Robinette, and Georgia Wingler and Paul Schoolcraft Jr., both of Mallory; a special nephew, Dennis Ray Brown of Milton; and many other nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will commence at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Gilman Bottom House of Prayer at Gilman Bottom with Rev. Donald Sparks officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill where military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 6153 and American Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville, and the DAV post 39 of Harts.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be Dwayne Mounts, Winfield Cooper Jr., Freddy Belcher, Bernard Maynard, and Jason Maynard.
Honorary pall bearers will be his grandsons.
