Obituary of Rosa Mae Farris

Rosa Mae “Rosie” Farris of Bolt Rosa Mae “Rosie” Farris, 81, of Bolt, formerly of Braeholm, ended a courageous 5½ year battle with cancer on Sunday morning, August 7, 2011, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV. She was born August 27, 1929, at Atensville, a daughter of the late Robert “Bob” and Pearlie Vance Fugate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 ½ years, Homer Farris, who passed away in March, 2011; one sister Mary Altizer; one brother, Bill Fugate; her parents-in-law, Charley and Ruth Farris; and her two precious grandchildren, Cassandra “Cassie” and Richard Edward “Eddie” Farris. She met and fell in love with Homer, and they were married on September 16, 1949, at Man. Their union produced six children, Joyce (Jimmy) Robinson of Springville, VA, Clara (James “Bobby”) Lusk of Braeholm, Betty (Jimmy “J. Don”) Lanier of Lexington, NC, Elizabeth Jane (Darrell) Bennett of Amherstdale, Deborah (Donald “Beetle”) Bailey of Holly Hills, and Charles Robert “Jimmy” Farris of Beckley. “Rosie” lived and raised her family in the Buffalo Creek area at Braeholm until the Buffalo Creek Flood at which time she moved to the Bolt area where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Bolt Church of God for 38 years having been a member of the Choir and the Ladies Aide. She was also a former member of the Becco United Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Youth Leader. She retired from the G. C. Murphy Company in Beckley in 1984. “Rosie” was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved visits from her family, enjoyed cooking and never liked for anyone to leave hungry. She was always ready to go shopping with her girls. In addition to her children, she is survived by 7 grandchildren, Wendi (Floyd) Daniels of Braeholm, J.R. (Jessica) Robinson of Princeton, Billy (Stephanie) Lanier of Lexington, NC; Ethan “Bud” (Leann) Shrewsbury of Glen Daniels, special granddaughter Donna Bailey of Holly Hills, Robert Farris of Charleston, and Brandi Ryles of Macon, GA; and 7 great grandchildren, Haylee Daniels, Aron and Summer Shrewsbury, Teja and Tori Robinson, and Tori and Dalton Ryles; two sisters Essie “Dolly” (Raymond) Watts and Bessie “Becky” (Deb) Watts, both of Little Harts; 5 sisters-in-law; one aunt, Elizabeth “Lizzi” Walls of Bruno; and many nieces, nephews, church family, and friends. . We would like to give a special thank you to Beckley ARH Home Health Nurse Paul Massey and Aide Pat Steele, her doctors Andrew and Tiffany Thymius and Nurse Paula at Access Health for the care they provided to Mom during her long illness. Funeral services will commence at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, at the Bolt Church of God at Bolt with Rev. Randall Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services. Pall bearers will be James “Bobby” Lusk, Darrell Bennett, Donald “Beetle” Bailey, Ethan “Bud” Shrewsbury, Floyd Daniels, Jimmy Robinson, J.R. Robinson, Charles Robert “Jimmy” Farris, Jimmy “J Don” Lanier, and Billy Lanier. Arrangements have been entrusted to Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home in Man.
