Troy Carter Of Gilman Bottom, WV Troy Carter, 84, of Gilman Bottom, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 14, 2011, from Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan, after a short illness. He was born March 9, 1927, in Logan County, a son of the late George and Farah Belle “Fairy” Robinson Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Frye Carter; two daughters, Glenna Jean Carter who died as an infant and Georgia Copley Hall; one sister, Nancy Browning; and five brothers, Willard Carter, George Carter, Jr., Rev. Matthew Carter, Rev. G. A. Carter, and Orville Carter. Troy was a mine electrician for 35 years who worked for Powellton Coal Company and retired from Denart Coal Company. He was a proud member of the UMWA throughout his entire mining career. An Army veteran, Troy served in France during WWII. A faithful member of the Greenbranch Free Will Baptist Church for over 40 years, Troy had served his church as a Deacon. Although no longer an official Deacon, he was dedicated to visiting the sick and comforting others in their time of need. He loved God, his family, neighbors, and his church family. Troy enjoyed gardening, guitar playing, and spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memory are three children, Seaburn Carter of Oceana, Paula (Ron) Green of Davin and Crystal Osborne of Asheboro, NC; one sister, Elizabeth “Dolly” Adams of South Shore, KY; two granddaughters, Belinda (Derik) Whitten of Oceana and Melody (Rick) McCleod of Fairdale; five grandsons, Murhl James (Keisha) Osborne of Asheboro, NC, Seaburn James Carter of Mallory, Ronnie (Brandi) Green of Accoville, Troy Jason Carter of Oceana, and Matthew Carter of Chicago, IL; five great-grandchildren, Tara (Matt) Grubb of Oceana, Maegan and Travis Whitten, both of Charleston, Kelsi Madison Green of Oceana, and Dylan Osborne of Asheboro, NC; one great-great-grandson, Levi Cole Grubb of Oceana; a special friend, Dewey Walls of Verner; many nieces and nephews, and his church family, along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will commence at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2011, at the Greenbranch Free Will Baptist Church at Man with Rev. James Ellis, Rev. Jackie Grimmett, and Brother Robert Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby, where military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 6153 and Amer. Legion Post 103 of Chapmanville and DAV Post 39 of Harts. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the church and one hour prior to services. Pall bearers will be family and friends.
