Judy Mae Browning Rakes
Of Amherstdale, WV
Judy Mae Browning Rakes, 59, of Amherstdale, went home to be with her heavenly Father on March 30, 2011, from Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan, after a long illness.
She was born September 22, 1951, at Crites, the daughter of the late Sebert and Katie Ward Browning.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Teddy Dean Rakes; one sister, Gwendolyn Browning; and two brothers, Jerry Lee Browning and Sebert Browning Jr.
Judy was a home maker. She was a member of the Crown Free Will Baptist Church but due to her chronic illness was only able to attend when her health allowed. Judy enjoyed working crossword puzzles, listening to her scanner, spending time with her grandchildren, and visiting with her special friends and family who would come to see her. Judy loved her canine companions, Buddy and Snoopie, who offered her many hours of comfort and entertainment. Before her illness, she enjoyed cooking, shopping, going to church, and helping others.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Bridgett Lusk (Russell) Blankenship of Amherstdale; two step-children, Sabrina Matney of Accoville and Kevin Ray Rakes of Gilman Bottom; five grandchildren who cherished their Mom-aw, Kristen Marie Griffey, Ricky Lee “R.J.” Griffey Jr., Ashley Lee Matney, Kayla Nicole Matney, and Gregory Dean Matney, two sisters, Linda Spears and Virginia Wooten, both of Robinette; one brother, Joseph Browning of Amherstdale; one very special cousin, Virginia Hager of Robinette; one very special great-nephew, Ricky Browning; and special nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
