Edward Lawrence Zornes
Of Man, WV
Edward Lawrence Zornes, born November 19, 1933, at Mallory, a son of the late Earl and Ettaree Thompson Zornes, entered into his eternal rest Saturday, March 26, 2011, at St. Mary’s Medical Center at Huntington, after a long and courageous battle with heart disease.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James Zornes.
Lawrence was a 1952 graduate of Man High School. In 1953, Lawrence joined the U.S. Army, where he served during the Korean Conflict as a military policeman. He was a graduate of Marshall University where he received his B.S. degree in Education and WVU where he attained his master degree in School Administration. During his career he was a teacher, principal, and attendance director for the Logan County School system finally retiring in 1989. After his retirement, Lawrence enjoyed wood crafting, walking, and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Macey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Willa Ackison Zornes; three children, Terri Zornes (Bill) Clark of Man, Edward Earl Zornes of Great Mills, MD, and Valerie Zornes (Jeffery) Swiger of Clarksburg; two grandchildren, Todd Clark and Jillian Clark (Craig) Miller, both of Man; two great-granddaughters, Sydnee Lynn and Carley Grace Miller, both of Man; one brother, Kenneth (Liz) Zornes of Austin, TX; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, at the Bruce McDonald Memorial United Methodist Church at Man with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
At his request the remains have been cremated.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jeffery E. George Comfort House 2801 South Staunton Rd. Huntington, WV 25702.
