Carlos Randolph Adkins
Of Amherstdale, WV
Carlos Randolph Adkins, 89, of Amherstdale, departed this life to be with his Lord on Monday, February 21, 2011, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 26, 1921, at Sand Creek in Lincoln County, a son of the late Watson Adkins and Martha Adkins Workman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents who reared him, Jeffrey and Louise Adkins; his wife of 58 years, Wanda Carter Adkins; six brothers, Billy Adkins, Edward Zane Adkins, Thomas Watson Adkins, William Fred Adkins, Dell Adkins, and Patrick Adkins; and a special niece, Teresa “Tessie” Adkins.
Carlos was a retired mechanic and coal miner formerly employed with Powellton Coal Company. He was an Army veteran of World War II. A faithful member of the Becco United Baptist Church since April 1, 1951, Carlos had served his church as a Deacon since December 3, 1972. Carlos touched many lives through his gospel music ministry. He truly loved sharing the gospel message through his guitar playing and singing. Carlos enjoyed gardening, hunting, and spending time with his great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory are one son, Rodney (Lesa) Adkins of Man; one daughter, Linda (Jack) Burgess of Amherstdale; two grand-daughters, Jaclyn (Eric) McClung of Madison and Adrienne Robinson of Amherstdale; four grandsons, Jason Adkins of Siler City, NC, Michael (Amanda) Adkins of Accoville, Joe Adkins of Siler City, NC, and Johnathan Adkins of Carey, NC; five great-grandchildren, Carlie Doczi, Christian Adkins, Lilly Robinson, Chase Adkins, and Carter McClung; one step-grand-daughter, Lauren McClung; one sister, Ginger Adkins of Barboursville; one brother, Mark (Shirley) Adkins of Huntington; a special cousin, Jay (Garnet) Adkins of Amherstdale; special caregivers, Lil Solomon, Carol Stewart, Bernice Toler, and Cathy Wheatley; and his church family along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Amherstdale with Rev. Denver McClellan and Rev. P.J. Tomblin officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church and one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Eric McClung, Jay Adkins, Tommy Adkins, James Doczi, Randall Stepp, and Motey Caserta.
Honorary pall bearer is James Stepp.
