Joseph C. Holly Jr.
Of South Man, WV
Joseph C. Holly Jr., 84, of South Man, departed this life Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at his residence.
He was born February 22, 1926, at Long Branch, a son of the late Joseph Cleveland and Ola Kincaid Holly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Scottie Berry Holly on November 17, 1997; his only grandson, Joseph C. “Jody” Holly on November 10, 1990; three brothers, Edgar Lee Holly, Lacy Estil Holly and his wife, Wanda, and Bobby Glen Holly and his wife, Nancy; one sister, Thelma Holly Warren and her husband, Seibert “Junior”; and one nephew, Rev. Cyrus Holly.
Joe was a retired employee who gave 43 years of service to the WV Dept. of Natural Resources. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the European Theatre during WWII. Joe was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He loved to garden, play cards and checkers, and spend time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Joseph C. “J.C.” Holly and his wife, Debbie, of Man and James “Jim” Holly and his wife, Retha, of Marco Island, FL; his daughter, Elaine Short and her husband, Roger, of Man; two granddaughters, Holly Rae Blair and her husband, Eric, and Bridgett Miller and her husband, James, all of Man; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Corey, and Colton Miller, and Courtney Jo Blair; one sister, Zelma Ann “Tootsie” Holly of Long Branch; nephews and their families, Lacy, Robby, and Reginald Holly, all of DE and Dwain Lawson of Joplin, MO; and nieces and their families, Jennifer Nichols of Pt. Pleasant, Susan Olsen of Oak Hill, and Kathy Keeling of Marco Island, FL; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to his caregivers, Lil Solomon, Shannon Brown, and Georgie Wingler and his Dignity Hospice caregivers, Angie Simpson, Missi Dingess, and Sherry Vance.
According to Joe’s wishes, there will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011, at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 5250 Robert C. Byrd Drive, Beckley, WV 25801, where military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 3110 of Oak Hill.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the food pantry at the First Baptist Church, 205 E. McDonald Ave., Man, WV 25635
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
