Thelma “Jean” Vanover
Of Amherstdale, WV
Thelma Jane “Jean” Adkins Vanover, 82, of Amherstdale went to be with the Lord and her family Tuesday, December 14, 2010, from her home, after a long illness.
She was born November 22, 1928, at Accoville, a daughter of the late Sanford and Inez Brown Adkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Werley Vanover, Sr.; two sisters, Mary Adkins O’Neal and Virgie Adkins; and three brothers, Mason Adkins, John Adkins, and Edgar Adkins.
She began her working life as a waitress at the Guyan Eagle Grill. Jean later worked as an assistant post master at the Amherstdale post office. She was a member of Becco United Baptist Church, where she was an assistant Sunday school teacher and an enthusiastic Bible school teacher. Devoted to her family, she was a wonderful wife and mother.
Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Patricia Lynn Vanover of Amherstdale with whom she made her home; a special niece, Maxine Dickerson of Newark, DE; and many nieces and nephews; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2010, at the Becco United Baptist Church at Amherstdale with Rev. Denver McClellan Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Becco United Baptist Church and one hour prior to services.
Pall bearers will be the men of the Becco United Baptist Church.
