Obituary of Arthur E. Sammons

Arthur E. Sammons Of Man, West Virginia Arthur E. Sammons, 84, of Man went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Logan Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 6, 1925, at Mallory, WV, son of the late John and Wilma Sammons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Iris, his brother, Paul and a sister, Carol Jean. Arthur was previously employed by Powellton and Island Creek Coal Companies. He was a Federal Mine Inspector; a mine owner-operator and formerly part owner of Dixon Hardware. Also, he was a member of the Board of Directors of The Bank of Man and Logan General Hospital. He was a former member of the Town Council of Man and the Man Rotary Club. When he was able, Arthur attended the Claypool United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. Arthur was an avid golfer and a former Little League Baseball Coach. After his recently departed wife, Arthur’s next love was Southern Gospel Music. He sang bass with the Mallory Quartet, along with his wife’s sister, Athleen, her husband, Ray Brooks, and Waitman Brown. He is survived by his brother, John Sammons and his wife, Patty of Garden Grove, CA; a sister-in-law, Pat Sammons of Teays Valley and a special niece, Patty Brooks Roach and her husband, Jim, who took care of Arthur’s needs for many years. Also left to cherish his memory are 22 nieces and nephews, 32 great nieces and nephews and 63 great-great nieces and nephews. Arthur was blessed to have devoted caregivers, Teresa Paynter, Della Johnson, Amber Clay, and Martha Osborne. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at the Claypool United Methodist Church at Davin with his nephew, Rev. Ronald R. Brooks and Rev. Bryan C. Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Claypool Cemetery at Davin. Friends may call from 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Bill Cline, David Cochran, Emil Tomblin, Millard Tomblin, Jim Frye, and Orville Davis. Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man is in charge of the arrangements.
