Phyllis A. "Shorty" Maynard
Of Man, WV
Phyllis A. "Shorty" Maynard, 72, of Man, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 23, 2018, leaving from Pikeville Medical Center at Pikeville, KY, after an extended illness.
She was born May 22, 1945, at Crites, the daughter of the late Robert Ray and Juanita Vernatter Goodman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Harry and Vestie Vanover Vernatter; her paternal grandparents, Pleasant and Shirley Goodman; her Aunt Helen "Sparky" Vernatter Dillon; and her Uncle Earnest Vernatter.
Phyllis was a 1965 graduate of Man High School and a 1976 graduate of SWVCC & TC, where she was the first female to graduate from the Criminal Justice program. She was previously employed by the Town of Man Police Department as a dispatcher. Shorty was a member of the Man Church of the Nazarene where she was a favorite of all the children who liked to check their height against the shortest adult they knew. Phyllis had a big heart, an infectious laugh, and was loved by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Melody Maynard of Man and MeShele "Mickie" Thrower of Fayetteville, AR; one grandson, Adan Garza of NC; one aunt, Betty Sorrell of Kistler; and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Phyllis will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Man Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Ollie Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services also.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
