Obituary of Gene Wilburn

Gene Wilburn Of Accoville, WV Gene Wilburn, 83, of Accoville, joined his wife in their heavenly home on Monday, March 19, 2018, leaving from Pikeville Medical Center at Pikeville, KY, after a sudden illness. He was born January 3, 1935, at Accoville, a son of the late Virgil and Nola Fannin Wilburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Priscilla Dempsey Wilburn; one son, Brian Wilburn; and one sister, Betty Lucas. Gene was a retired coal miner formerly employed with Island Creek Coal Company. He was a proud member of the UMWA District 17. Gene loved restoring classic cars. Devoted to his family, he especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory are two grandchildren, Bryna Wilburn (David) Jewell of Williamson and Whitney Wilburn (Scott) Cordell of Charleston, SC; his great-grandchildren, Derek Jewell, Chloe Cordell, and Brandon Cordell; several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. James Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services at the funeral home also. Pall bearers will be David Jewell, Scott Cordell, Leroy Terry, George Plumley, Donald Sparks, and John Curry.
