Of Amherstdale, WV
Norma Jean Nelson, 83, of Amherstdale, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 11, 2018, leaving from her earthly home, after an extended illness.
She was born May 28, 1934, at Braeholm, a daughter of the late Charlie Bolton and Eliza Flannary Chafin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Nelson, Sr.; two step-daughters, Sharon Lee Williams Schindler and Jewel Browning; 5 sisters, Margaret McCoy, Bernice Glass, Helen Welch, Thelma Burt, and Gloria Ann Browning; two brothers, Keneth Chafin and Earnest Lee Chafin; and two grandchildren, Richard Daniels and Baby Browning.
Norma was a 1952 graduate of Man High School and was a member of the Old Man High School Alumni Association. After graduation, she started her working career as a retail sales clerk at Goodmans at Accoville, then Toler Supermarket at Proctor Bottom, and ended her retail career at Man Clothing and Jewelry at Man. She went on to obtain her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree at the Ralph R. Willis Vocational and Technical Center. Since April 16, 1980 Norma has been a member of the Becco United Baptist Church. Norma was a member of the Red Hats at Man and S.T.A.R.T.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, George "Slick" (Pamela) Nelson of Amherstdale and Chuck (Tammy) Nelson of Claypool; four step-daughters, Lillian Daniels of Lakeland, FL, Patty (Harley) Adkins of Amherstdale, Jackie (Bill) Newman of GA, and Bobbi (James David) Nabors of Cookville, TN; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Becco United Baptist Church at Becco with Pastor P.J. Tomblin and Deacon Bob Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Frye-Nelson Cemetery at 14 Mtn. Road in Lincoln County.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the church and one hour prior to services at the church also.
Pall bearers will be grandsons.
