Obituary of Peggy Jo Standifur Heatherman

Peggy Jo Standifur Heatherman Of Davin, WV Peggy Jo Standifur Heatherman, 81, of Davin, joined her husband in their heavenly home on Friday, January 12, 2018, leaving from Dignity Hospice House at Chapmanville after a brief illness. She was born April 7, 1936, at Braeholm, a daughter of the late James Andrew and Rose Ross Standifur. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Utchie" Heatherman; her parents-in-law, Rev. Pat and Helen Heatherman; her sister-in-law, Jeannie Standifur; and one brother-in-law, Larry Heatherman. Peggy was a firm believer in church, family, and work. Since 1963, she was a member of Accoville United Methodist Church. During those years she served her Lord and Church in various ways including as a member and officer of the United Methodist Women on both the local and district level, chairperson of the Administrative Council for the United Methodist Church in WV, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, lay Speaker, Bible study leader, Vacation Bible School Coordinator, choir leader, and other various committees. She retired in 1989 from the Logan County Board of Education after 32 years as an educator. Her careers began at Buffalo Grade School where she taught for many years and achieved through education and hard work the position of principal. She retired as principal of Mallory Grade School where she also served for many years. Her goal as an educator was to convince each child that they could learn and help them develop a strong since of self worth. She was a member of the National Education Association, WV Education Association, and the Logan County Education Association. Peggy was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was an active member of S.T.A.R.T., a member of the Logan Regional Medical Center Auxillary. Peggy enjoyed travel, family and friends, and had a passion for learning and discovering God's purpose. Those left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Charlotte Heatherman (Dean) Simpson of Gilbert and Charles "Chuck" (Trina) Heatherman of Cyclone; one brother, Tom Standifur of CA; three sisters, Sally (Jerry) Brewster of Johnstown, OH, Diana (Ray) Berry of Columbus, OH, and Rosemary (Paul) Balgavy of Fredericksburg, VA; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Grace and Winsel Elliott of Taplin, and Linda Heatherman of Dunbar; many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Sharlene Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home also. Pall bearers will be her nephews.
