Obituary of James Ray Short

James Ray "Johnny" Short Sr. Of Gilman Bottom, WV James Ray "Johnny" Short Sr., 75, of Gilman Bottom went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 17, 2017, leaving from his earthly home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 30, 1942, at Man, the son of the late Raymond and Lucy Bryant Short. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Bentley Damron. James enjoyed many things in life, but really loved watching Nascar races and spending time with his family, friends, and his dog, Max. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Thelma "Jean" Short; their two children, James Ray "Jim" (Becky) Short Jr. and Tammy (Marion) Damron; five grandchildren, Amber (Joshua) Morgan, Derek (Vanessa) Damron, Cody Damron and his fiancé, Jessica Brown, Samantha Short and her fiancé Noah Maynard, and Olivia Short; five great-grandchildren, James Morgan, Kaydence Morgan, Kimberlea Morgan, Jacob Morgan, and Brooklyn Damron; one brother, Danny (Susan) Short; one sister, Billie Rose Short Bailey; and his special group of friends from the Cliffside Restaurant along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Brother Sheldon Wells officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home also. Pall bearers will be family and friends.
