Uhel Adkins
Of Davin, WV
Uhel Adkins, 89, of Davin, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan, after a brief illness.
He was born on June 7, 1928, in Logan County, a son of the late Sampson "Shug" and Rosie Simpkins Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Fern Adkins; one son, Tommy Adkins; and his siblings, Beatrice Hayes and French Ed Adkins.
Uhel was a coal miner for 44 years, starting his career at Lorado Coal Company and retiring from Arch Coal Company, formerly Amherst Coal Company, in 1989. He was a proud member of UMWA Local 1302 where over the years he held various offices in the local union. A lifetime Christian, Uhel started out as a faithful member of the Saunders Freewill Baptist Church until 1972. After the flood, he became a dedicated member of Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church where he served the Lord faithfully in many positions as he was needed. He will long be remembered by both congregations for his work as the Vacation Bible School Director which was his passion. Uhel had two functions in life, workin' and churchin'. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love was unconditional.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Marcella Ann (Lee) Feltner of Colonial Beach, VA and Joe Adkins of Davin; his daughter-in-law, Ann Adkins of Cyclone; two sisters, Shirley (Dewey) Osborne of Lundale and Shelva (Hayward) Payne of Sharples; two brothers, Larry (Leslie) Adkins of NJ and Gary (Susan) Adkins of Huntington; four grandchildren, Melinda (John) Curry of Ottawa, Aaron Adkins of Cyclone, Randy (Katie) Feltner and Tommy Feltner, both of Colonial Beach, VA; five great-grandchildren, Ethan Curry, and Wyatt, Kadin, Emma, and Nora Feltner; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2017, at the Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church at Cyclone with Rev. Stephen Walls officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man and one hour prior to services at the church.
