Obituary of Mary O. Staten

Mary O. Staten Of Davin, WV Mary O. Staten, 81, of Davin, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 12, 2017, leaving from her earthly home at Davin after a short illness. She was born on July 16, 1936, at Sandy Bottom, a daughter of the late Normal and Rosina "Rosie" Rizzuto Perry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Lester Jennings and Vivian Griffith Staten. Mary was an employee at Man Appalachian Regional Hospital's Business Office who retired after 42 years of service. She was a long time member of the Claypool United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Aide. A former Girl Scout leader, Mary and her sidekicks Avonelle and Gladys, made many happy memories while teaching the girls in their troop. She enjoyed traveling and working in her church especially the ladies aide activities. Devoted to her family, Mary loved taking care of her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 44 years, John E. "Johnny" Staten; one son, Paul E. Staten and his wife, Jennifer A. Staten who Mary considered her daughter of Richmond, KY; her cousin and dear friend, Avonelle Runyon of Combs Addition and her children, Regina Brothers, Ginger Trahin, and Robin Cazin; and a dear friend who was a true blessing to Mary and Johnny, Delores Ackerson of Man; along with her church family and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Claypool United Methodist Church at Claypool with Rev. Kevin Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Beckley. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church also. Pall bearers will be Johnny Vance, Jeff Woods, Paul Vance, Jack Morgan, Ray Stacy, and Jimmy Caudill. Honorary pall bearer will be Posey Perry.
