Obituary of Janice Lee Dale McCormick
Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
We had something very rare, a mother who gave us unconditional love and total support with no criticism or meddling, who was there to catch us and help us at all times. But we lost our precious mother Janice Lee Dale McCormick when she got her wings on Tuesday July 25, 2017.
Jan was the youngest child of Green and Nannie Dale, and was born on February 17, 1931 at Fanco. She lived on Buffalo Creek her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Norman Buster McCormick; six brothers and sisters: Mildred Heller, Laura Maynard, Dan Dale, Edith Dale, Frank Dale, and Cecil Dale; two sons-in-law, Rev. Earl David Campbell and Thomas Adkins; two nieces Carolyn Lowe and Sandy Smith; and nephew Marvin Harvey.
Jan became a widow at age 36 due to a mining accident and, therefore, she raised their six children on her own. In addition to raising her children, she lived a very active life. Her career began as the first gas girl at the company store in the 1940's. She then worked in various stores until she retired in her sixties. Then she became the Avon Lady until her passing. For more than 30 years she bowled on two leagues and competed in both state and national tournaments.
She always voiced that the center of her heart was all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Frank and Vickie McCormick; and five daughters, Betty Campbell, Charlene and Calvin Necessary, Linda and Philip Leonard, Nancy and Troy Lawson, and Danita and Norman Noel; and son-in-law, Henry Meade. Her grandchildren who will miss her terribly are Leigh Ann Campbell, David Lee and Christy Campbell, Michael and Holly Necessary, Brandon and Susan Meade, Ashley Campbell, Frank Alan McCormick, Whitney and Shawn Tignor, Janell and Nathan Hill, Sean and Misty Noel, Shane Noel, and Jerin and Lauren Leonard. Her great grandchildren who she absolutely adored are Sawyer and Caleb Hill; Allison Casto; John David and Megan Campbell; Pierce Necessary; Aiden Tignor; Dawson and Jeremiah Meade; Laya, Logan, and Connor Noel; and two new bundles of joy due in 2018.
Jan had one remaining sister-in-law, Dot Dale, as well as several nieces and nephews: Rev. Norman and Juanita Harvey, Larry and Carolyn Harvey, Sue and Charles Adkins, Paul Smith, Linda Sherman, Nita and Larry Cooper, Bud Dale, Brenda Gillis, Janet and Mark Lee, and David and Barbette Dale, and their families.
She also had extended family: step-grandchildren Michael and Missy Leonard, Chris and Tiffany Leonard, Troy Lawson, Todd Lawson, and Beau and Cyndi Lawson. Step-great grandchildren are Jon and Kaitlin Leonard, and Cheyenne, David, Shawn, Jonah and Isaiah Leonard; Jarrett and Tessa Caulk; Drew Bias, Christopher Trent, and Maddie, Peyton, Haley, Brittney, Calista, Adrianne, and Whitney Lawson.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Rada, Dr. Kanuri, Nancy Davis, Brandy Martin, and the Logan Regional Fourth Floor staff for their compassionate care of our mother over the last few months.
Services will be conducted by Rev. Norman Harvey, her beloved nephew, and Rev. Johnny Hatfield at the Accoville United Methodist Church at Accoville on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.
