William Joe "Joey" Thompson
Of Canton, NC
William Joe "Joey" Thompson, 60, of Canton, NC, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2017, leaving from his home, after an extended illness.
He was born on May 15, 1957, at Logan, a son of the late Joe Douglas and Judy Alice Burgess Thompson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jennifer Deel.
Joey was a 1975 graduate of Man High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1979. While in the Air Force he became a meteorologist and worked all over the world. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1999 as a Tech Sergeant after proudly serving his country for 20 years. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf and tennis. He was a devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 32 years, Rebecca Lynne Blackstock Thompson; two daughters, Jennifer (Gary) Foran of Fayetteville, IL and Nikki (Robbie) Dedmon of Vale, NC; one sister, Robin Sue (Mike) Cline of Abingdon, VA; two brothers, Kevin (Becky) Thompson of Greenville, MI and Chris Thompson of Beckley, WV; seven grandchildren, Kara Collins and Krystan Collins, Garytt Foran and Zoe Foran, and Joey Foran, all of Fayetteville, IL and Blaze Dedmon and Waylon Dedmon, both of Vale, NC; several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Joey's life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017, at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Johnny Toler officiating. Burial will follow at Claypool Cemetery at Davin where military honors will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard.
Friends and family may gather one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Pall bearers will be Gary Foran, Donnie Corns, Gary Atkins, Cody Owens, Mike Spolarich, Mike Thompson. Honorary pall Bearers are Roger Thompson, Austin Thompson, Justin Bledsoe, Kevin Thompson, Chris Thompson, and Brad Thompson.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home, 115 Market St., Man, WV 25635 to help with funeral expenses.
