Brookie Ann Murray
Of Davin, WV
Brookie Ann Murray, 79, of Davin, joined her husband, Bill, in their heavenly home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Michelle.
She was born on June 15, 1938, at Cyclone, the daughter of the late Marshall and Rosa Blankenship Bailey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 ½ years, Bill L. Murray; and two siblings, Fannie Osborne and Marshall Bailey, Jr.
Brookie was a graduate of Man High School. She married her childhood sweet heart, Bill L. Murray, on April 24, 1955. At the urging of her husband, Brookie continued her education at Morris Harvey College graduating with a Bachelors' degree in Education. She continued her education at Marshall University but received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from West Virginia University and started on her Doctorate.
Finding her passion in life as an elementary school teacher, Brookie taught school for 55 years before retiring in 2012. She worked her entire career for the Logan County Board of Education. Brookie began teaching at Christian Grade School and through out her career taught at Mallory Grade School, Buffalo Grade School, South Man Grade School, and Man Central. She loved children and enjoyed helping them learn. Brookie believed that the foundation for life began with what a child learned in Grade School and she was determined to give them a good beginning.
She was a member of the Claypool United Methodist Church for 53 years where she served in various capacities as her church needed her. When the Lord called Bill into the ministry, Brookie helped him in his ministry at the Blair United Methodist Church at Blair and the Omar Community Church at Omar.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Dr. Michelle (Wanda) Murray of Ashland, KY and Sharon Murray whose address is unknown; one grandson, Charles "Eppie" Click of Ashland, KY; one grand-daughter, Victoria King of Grayson, KY; many nieces and nephews, and her church family along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Claypool United Methodist Church at Claypool with Rev. Rick Brown, Rev. David Fisher, and Rev. Kevin Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
