Roger Lee Foxx
Of Davin, WV
Roger Lee Foxx, 73, of Davin, departed this life on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Logan Regional Medical Center, after an extended illness.
He was born on August 11, 1943, at Man, a son of the late Edward Franklin and Macel Irene Collins Foxx.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Graham.
Roger was a 1961 graduate of Man High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Viet Nam War. Once he was honorably discharged from the Army, Roger worked for General Motors Refrigeration at Dayton, Ohio for several years. He returned to the Man area in late 1960's and went to work at Amherst Coal Company, working as a coal miner until his retirement in 1998. Bored with retirement, he and his friend, Junie Dials, opened and operated J.R.'s Lounge at Man. After Junie's death, Roger continued to operate J.R.'s Lounge until his second retirement in June of 2012.
He was a wonderful father who was very involved with Little League Baseball, Midget League Football, Man Jr. High Football, and MHS Hillbilly Football during the years his sons played. Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing. As a grandfather, he was giving, supportive, and loving; cheering on his grandchildren in all of their endeavors.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving companion, Jackie Gambill; two sons, William Edward Foxx and his fiancé, Ann Marie Stirn, and Ronnie (Jocelyn "Joy") Foxx, all of Lake City, FL; one brother, Darrell Foxx of Amherstdale; one sister, Naomi Midkiff of Davin; two grandchildren, Falynn Foxx and Deric Paynter, both of Lake City, FL; and several nieces and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Roger's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
