Obituary of Nellie Jo Zirkle Adkins

Nellie Jo (Zirkle) Adkins, 83, of Blacksburg, VA formerly of Man, departed this life Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Lewis Gale Montgomery Regional Hospital at Blacksburg, VA, after a sudden illness.
She was born September 7, 1930, at Man, the daughter of the late Aubrey and Fonnie Browning Zirkle.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Adkins; one son, Thomas Adkins; one daughter, Carolyn Adkins; two brothers, Tom Zirkle and Hughey Ab Zirkle; three sisters, Edna Perilloux, Fonnie "Sweet Pea" Carlton, and Norma Grace Zirkle.
Nellie was a homemaker and caregiver to her disabled son for 60 years before relocating to Virginia. She enjoyed socializing, making new friends, playing bingo, new adventures, and the companionship she found at Showalter Assisted Living with her special friend, George Shelor.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Marilyn Ruth Wiley of Man; one son, Terry Adkins who resides with Marilyn; two granddaughters, Cindy "Punkin" (Norman) Wiley-Lamb of Blacksburg, VA and Kenna "Sissy" (Mackie) Johnson of Man; five great-grandchildren, Kortney (Camron Hunt) Gillispie, Earl Ray "Bub" Gillispie, Corey Gillispie, MacKenzie Carol Ruth Johnson, and Khloe Amy Alyse Lamb; two sisters, Brookie Brogan of OH and Esther "Sugar" Blankenship of LA; and special niece, Connie Cline of Chapmanville along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Richard Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Pall bearers will be family and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.
