Mary Jane Dugan, PhD, 79, of Neighbert, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 19, 1937, the only child of the late Charlie Kaufman and Viola Melocci Kaufman Sesti and was raised by her paternal grandparents the late Raymond and Beatrice Kaufman.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jerry Dugan.
A graduate of Schenley High School in Pittsburgh, PA, Presbyterian Hospital Nursing School, and The University of Pittsburgh. Mary Jane was a recently retired university professor who had served on faculty at five colleges through out her career. In 2002, she co-authored "The Body-Mind-Spirit Links to Healthy Aging", a book on holistic living which was widely distributed in libraries across the U.S. In her earlier years, she was a pediatric nurse, a track coach, and a homemaker. Growing up in the inner-city, as well as being the daughter of a POW holocaust survivor, shaped her fearless attitude, unwavering determination, conservative beliefs, and eternal optimism. Mary Jane was a Christian and a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church at Pittsburgh, PA. Her passions in life included reading, teaching, family, and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Raymond Dugan, grandson, Tyler Dugan, daughter-in-law, Eleanor Dugan, all of Stollings; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron and Patricia Dugan of Hershey, PA; sister-in-law, Shirley Staley of FL, brother-in-law, Richard Dugan (Miguel) of Santa Rosa, CA and their families. Close friends included Albert and Myrtle Prince, Robbie and Amy Thompson, Misty Workman, Lee and Jennifer Prince, Robert Raffaele, Holly Raffaele, and special caregivers, Ruthie Sargent, Kathy Adkins, Sherlyn Neblett, and Karen Ramsey.
A special thanks and appreciation to Dignity Hospice, Dr. Waris, Dr. Paugh, Dr. Salem, and all of their staff.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Pastor John Godby officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Friends may gather with the family from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home also.

Pall bearers will be Albert Prince, Lee Prince, James Miller, T.J. Crosby, Michael Crosby, and Tyler Dugan.
