Irene Mazon Of South Man, WV Irene Smolenski Mazon, 98, of South Man, joined her husband, John Mazon in Heaven on February 24, 2017, leaving from her home, after sudden heart failure. She was born on September 26, 1918, in Logan, a daughter of the late Marion and Julia Smolenski. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Mazon; and all of her siblings including; Eleanor Griffith, Edward Smolenski, Josephine Napier, Jenny Christian, Harry Smolenski, and Clem Smolenski. Irene was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Man for nearly 70 years, serving in various capacities including Church Treasurer, Kids Primary Class Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School kitchen worker, and any other area she was needed. Irene was a caregiver in every sense of the word. She spent her life taking care of others and derived happiness from the success of her loved ones. She stopped attending school in 7th grade to assist her mother with her business, the Man Depot Restaurant and Boarding House, and to help raise her younger siblings. She married at age 16 and was a mother at 23. She kept an immaculate home, inside and out, along with a beautiful vegetable garden. She was a full time baby sitter to her granddaughters in Man and was their biggest fan. She was on the front row at every school program, taught them to drive, and fed them breakfast and dinner countless times. She was a dedicated volunteer at South Man Grade School, where her daughter, Olga, taught for over 30 years. She was adored by all that knew her for her mild demeanor, sweet disposition, and willingness to always be of service. Those left to cherish the memories of Irene include her son, John Edward (Helma) Mazon of Irving, TX; daughter, Olga Jean (Gary) Ellis of South Man; grandchildren, Lisa (Rick) Hultz of Irving, TX, Shelley (John) Liegl of Norman, OK, Angela (Scott) Coburn of Lavalette, Rev. Johnny (Becky) Mazon of Aledo, TX, Melissa (John) White of Combs Addition, and Rebecca (Chad) Bevins of Apex, NC; 11 great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Cotton (Edward) Smith of Barboursville; and her beloved cat, Lucy.
