Richard "Ricky" Lee Adkins, 62, of Glen Allen, formerly of Lundale, WV, departed this life on earth for his eternal home in Heaven on Monday, January 2, 2017, from Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, VA, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous year long battle with cancer.
He was born on April 26, 1954, in Logan County, WV, a son of the late Ollie and Beulah Roark Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Chastity Hatfield; grandparents, Everett and Della Dean Adkins and James and Ethel Stidhams Roark; several aunts, uncles, and other family members.
Ricky was a former employee of Amherst Coal and Pittston Coal Companies in WV, and W. J. Rapp Company of Richmond, VA. At the time of his illness, he was employed as an assistant manager by Ross Dress for Less of Richmond, VA. Ricky was of the Christian Faith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, watching Nascar, football, and collecting movies. Ricky was a 1972 graduate of Man High School at Man, WV.
Those left to cherish his memory are the love of his life, his wife, LaDonna Wingler Adkins; one son, Greggory Scott (Casey) Adkins of Glen Allen, VA; one daughter, Rickara (Sonny) Kidd and grandson, Joey Kidd, of Richmond, VA; four brothers, James "Duke" (Diane) Adkins of Amelia, VA, Darrell (Delores "Sissy) Adkins of Lundale, WV, David (Rhonda) Adkins of Accoville, WV, and Robert Adkins of Lundale, WV; one sister, Deborah "Debbie" (Glenn) Moore of Solon, OH; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Wingler of Lorado, WV, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews along with a host of other relatives and friends.
In honor of his wishes, Ricky was cremated and his ashes will be spread at a later date.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Richmond Cremation, 2179 Tomlynn St., Richmond, VA 23230.
